Wednesday night has become the unofficial launch date for many high-profile iOS games, because on Thursday, Apple refreshes their featured lists. We’ve got the jump on tonight’s biggest games after checking out the New Zealand App Store. If you click on the Kiwi links below, they’ll take you to your local App Store, where the games should be ready to download after 8pm PST.
This stylish flying game seems simple at first, but the more you play it, the more it reveals its depth. You play as a flying, sloth-like creature in a dark, dense jungle. Pressing on the screen will cause him to float, like in Jetpack Joyride and other auto-running games. Your goal is to avoid getting caught on trees or rocks as you fly by, but soon you’ll find power-ups that will cause your sloth to shrink or grow, or split into multiple versions of itself. The background graphics are eerie and beautiful, and the gameplay appears simple, but can actually be quite challenging. Badland definitely stands out as the most unique-looking game in the App Store tonight.
Injustice: Gods Among Us
Injustice is a DC Comics universe fighting game, which will also launch on consoles later this month. The iOS version of Injustice is a free download, powered by the Unreal Engine. You can play as a huge number of DC heroes and villains, including Batman, Superman, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, and many more. New characters are unlocked by purchasing card packs with in-game currency, but we found the tap and swipe-based fighting to be pretty fun, so earning more cards shouldn’t be too difficult. If you download Injustice, expect something like a cross between Infinity Blade and Marvel vs Capcom 2.

iOOTP Baseball 13
The Out of the Park Baseball series lets you play as a manager for a major league baseball team. You can scout players, offer them contracts, manage their salaries, and basically dive into the minutiae of running a team. The actual baseball gameplay takes a back seat to the Moneyball-style management, but if you’ve got a head full of stats and a love of the game, iOOTP Baseball 13 might be your kind of baseball sim.

Tekken Card Tournament
After mixing it up with the Street Fighter crew, Tekken’s next iOS game lets you use cards to kick and punch. Tekken Card Tournament is a free game that uses the characters from the classic fighting series, but with a completely new gameplay mechanic. Since it’s a free game like Injustice, we expect you to have to pay in-app currency to unlock new characters and moves. It’s not technically a fighting game, but fighting fans might still want to give it a try.

Billed as the first endless action RPG, Slayin from FDG Entertainment uses basic left, right, and attack controls to let you slay enemies and gather loot. FDG’s previous retro-styled games like Across Age have been a lot of fun on iOS, so we’re hoping Slayin is as epic as this trailer makes it out to be.
