New App A Day: Riddim Ribbon

Earlier this year we were excited to review Riddim Ribbon feat. The Black Eyed Peas, a unique-looking music game experience from the makers of Tap Tap Revenge. While we were disappointed by the high price and scarce content, a newly released version simply called Riddim Ribbon offers more songs for free.

The gameplay is similar to the last game: You tilt the device to keep your rolling musical ball on the track, collecting points for a high score. However, the music doesn’t warp like a vinyl record left in a hot car if you miss the track, and Riddim Ribbon also adds an unusual Match-3 minigame. While you play, you’ll pick up colored orbs that can be moved around in a tray at the bottom of the screen. Collecting three of the same color will give you a bonus.

Instead of just the Black Eyed Peas, the new Riddim Ribbon also features music from artists like Far East Movement, who currently have a hit single called Like A G6. That song comes pre-loaded on the app, along with one other, but the rest of the free songs have to be downloaded individually from within the app.

You can also buy individual songs/levels for 99 cents each, or in packs of two to four dollars. Artists available through the premium downloads include Rihanna, Justin Timberlake, and Lady Gaga. One other interesting option is to download other apps, both free and paid, in order to earn credits you can use towards more music.

Riddim Ribbon, like several of the Tap Tap games, is now a free-to-download platform for music-based levels. We think this is a great change for the series, so if you love rhythm games, you should probably grab some headphones and check it out for free.
