New App A Day: Pig Shot

Today’s featured new app came to us via a press release bragging that it’s an “EPIC pig-slinging, farting and rolling experience that you can’t find elsewhere.” Was this something people were looking for?

Pig Shot is a simple high-score game where you fire a pig with a slingshot and roll it along as far as you can. You’ll be able to pick up coins to improve your score, and press anywhere on the screen to propel yourself with an all-natural internal combustion engine. At the same time, you have to avoid obstacles by tilting the device.

Pig Shot is actually quite nice to look at, with colorful and kid-friendly visuals. The banjo music is also quite boppy and fun, making the whole strange experience feel like a featured event at a backwoods jamboree.

OpenFeint leaderboards and achievements will provide most of the replay value, because there are no alternate modes to try out. You can also email a challenge to a friend, but we’d have preferred direct OpenFeint challenges.

While we wouldn’t call this game “epic”, it certainly is cute. As for an experience you can’t find elsewhere, it’s reminiscent of games like Bird Strike, but we guess flatulent pigs are still an App Store novelty (for now.)
