Namco Releases Alpine Racer, Tamagotchi: ‘Round The World

Namco Networks recently dropped two more $5.99 games on the App Store. One’s an iPhone version of the publisher’s Alpine Racer arcade game, which you used to play by standing on a pair of mechanical skis. The other’s a port of virtual pet game Tamagotchi, a Bandai property that’s proved to be very popular on other portable platforms (and keychains).

From the Alpine Racer presser:

“With blistering 3D graphics, Alpine Racer brings skiing and snowboarding to life as players pull off aerial tricks and fly down the alpine and try to win the King of the Mountain challenge. Players are presented with two game modes’”conquer Story Mode to unlock a secret character or take on Time Attack and race against your toughest competition, a ‘ghost’ image replay of your best timed run.

The fast, fun action of Alpine Racer is made possible through intuitive controls, allowing players to tilt the iPhone or touch the screen to control their racer. The game also features:

  • Two characters, plus two unlockable characters
  • The opportunity to earn points to upgrade top speed, acceleration, power and outfits
  • Adjust the control, power, acceleration and max speed

And from the Tamagotchi release:

“Tamagotchi: ‘Round the World takes the digital pet toy and game series and turns it into a game where players and their Tamagotchi interact with cute clouds, playful plants and gleeful geysers to raise the ultimate pet: an entire planet. The Tamagotchi eat, dance, play and poop their way to a happier and healthier planet.

Players can choose from one of four adorable Tamagotchi and play one of six missions that take place across three Planets (jungle, desert and ‘bucktooth’). Each mission has different objectives that lead to a happy, healthy Planet.

Players move around the Planet as their Tamagotchi interacts with the Gaiatchi (living clouds, plants, geysers and seedlings that populate the Planet). Players bring life to the Planet by interacting with the Gaiatchi through various mini-games and activities, such as Rock Paper Scissors, Dancing and Tag It.

Tamagotchi: ‘˜Round the World takes full advantage of the iPhone accelerometer and touch screen controls. For example, in the Beach Ball mini-game, players tilt the iPhone to move the Tamagotchi to the left or right and then tap the screen to jump up and hit the ball. The game also features bouncy music that turns several of the mini-games into rhythm games.”
