Can love bloom on mobile phones and tablets? You bet. Hideo Kojima’s beloved Metal Gear action/stealth series is getting its first social entry later this year with Metal Gear Social Ops for the GREE platform. Also in the pipeline: A Metal Gear movie produced by Avi Arad.
Metal Gear Social Ops was announced earlier today at Konami’s Metal Gear 25th Anniversary Event. GREE CEO Yoshikazu Tanaka appeared on-stage to introduce the game and confirm a ‘worldwide release’ between Fall and Winter of 2012.
According to Andriasang, Metal Gear Social Ops lets players relive previous stories from the series’ past. You form a battalion and utilize cards in battle. There is also a Mother Base development series that recalls 2010’s Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker.
Kojima Productions is planning the game, and GREE is developing it utilizing the Unity Engine. A playable build of the game will be available at the Tokyo Game Show, which runs from September 20 through the 23.
And now, the second Metal tidbit. A Metal Gear Solid movie was also announced at the event, and Avi Arad (X-Men, The Amazing Spider-Man, Iron Man) is producing it. Quite a pedigree. Coming soon to the silver screen: Snake’s first upside-down kiss.
