In a surprising announcement on Tuesday, Japanese online game company DeNA announced that they will be purchasing Ngmoco, the San Francisco-based developer of iPhone apps such as We Rule and We Farm, for $400 million.
The CEO of DeNA, Tomoko Namba, spoke at last week’s GDC Online, in a panel entitled Land of the Rising Revenue. You can read a liveblog analysis of her speech here. DeNA, the developer of mobile Japanese online game Mobage Town, is expected to pull in $1 billion in revenue this year.
According to Ngmoco CEO Neil Young, Plus+ and Ngmoco’s current games will be melded with Mobage Town’s technology, to enable their games to reach both Japanese and Western audiences on Apple and Android platforms.
