Attempts to purchase the iPhone through AT&T’s website were met with an impasse over the weekend, if the zip code provided was for New York City.
Various AT&T representatives have provided different reasons, including network congestion and fraud. Users can still buy their iPhones at a walk-in AT&T store, but Apple itself has not provided a reason for the halt in NYC online sales.
As frustrating as this experience may be for New Yorkers, we have seen hopeful signs that AT&T’s network exclusivity for the iPhone may be waning. Soon enough, maybe Sprint or Verizon will be able to block your online purchase of the iPhone as well.
