Apple has announced that two million preorders were placed for the iPhone 5 in the first 24 hours it was available. To compare, that’s more than twice the previous record of one million set by the iPhone 4S. That’s a lot of iPhones.
The iPhone 5 became available for preorder on September 14, while the first phones will be in customers’ hands this Friday, September 21. As demand has increased, the shipping dates have rolled back into early October, so if you’re thinking about ordering an iPhone 5, the sooner the better.
