AllThingsD reported today that “sources close to the situation” have confirmed that Apple plans to hold its iPhone 5 presentation on October 4. The phone, they add, will go on sale “within a few weeks after the announcement.”
Also notable is that Apple’s new CEO Tim Cook is expected to head up the event, taking over the role formerly occupied by Steve Jobs. Whether or not Mr. Jobs– now the chairman of Apple’s board of directors– will make an appearance likely has yet to be determined, and will depend on his health.
As usual, there has been much speculation about the features and specs of the next iteration of the iPhone, but no concrete details have been announced. For any official word, we’ll have to wait for the media event.
