It looks like Apple will be announcing the iPad 3 on March 7, 2012. The date was originally posted by iMore and later supported by the well-connected Jim Dalrymple from The Loop. The timing makes sense. March 7 would be a hair over a year from the iPad 2 announcement. Like the iPad 2 announcement, the rumored date would also be smack in the middle of Game Developers Conference, allowing Apple access to all the developers and journalists in town for the show.
Here’s the deal according to iMore:
According to sources who have been reliable in the past, Apple currently plans to hold their iPad 3 announcement on Wednesday, March 7, 2012. Along with the 2048 x 1536 Retina display, the iPad 3 will feature a quad-core Apple 6 system-on-a-chip, and possibly 4G LTE networking.
Slide to Play and Padvance will be in San Francisco for GDC, so expect some nifty iPad 3 coverage too. For now, please share the iPad 3 (rumored) feature that excited you the most. Is it the “Retina Display” resolution? The 4G LTE radio? Leave your favorite feature in the comments section!
