Exclusive: Multiplayer and Survival Modes Coming To Warlords: Call to Arms

Directly porting games with Flash code may be a thing of the past, but that’s probably a good thing when you consider native code allows developers to easily add more impressive new features. One example is Greyhound Games, which plans to release a survival mode and two new multiplayer modes for their popular game Warlords: Call to Arms in the near future. Read on for exclusive details and screenshots of what’s to come.

In a nutshell, Warlords: Call to Arms is a ‘castle vs. castle’ game with a progression system similar to that of Risk and tons of depth through upgrades. You get added control over how to deploy units by choosing which part of the field they will march down. The goal is to send more units across to the opponent’s base when time is up.

The first new mode is single-player survival mode to complement the campaign. As one would expect, the goal is to survive for as long as possible while the enemies get increasingly tougher. Some interesting things to note are champion waves and race/unit combinations generally not seen in the current campaign mode. Your high score is based on the number of waves you survive, and can be posted to OpenFeint.

There are also two multiplayer modes coming. Versus is your typical face-off where each player picks his or her race, units, and upgrades to use. The other is a co-op mode with a survival progression tweaked to suit multiple players. Both players control their race of choice on one side of the map and try to fend off the medieval baddies knocking at your gates. Separate OpenFeint leaderboards are available for this mode. Both of these support Bluetooth and local Wi-Fi.

We weren’t given an exact date on the update, but the iPhone version will be receiving it before the iPad version. You can currently try the Flash version of Warlords for free, or purchase the iPhone and iPad versions for $1.99 and $3.99, respectively.
