The almighty Super Mega Worm called Wojira is back, and once again he’s ravenous. Only this time he’s hankering for polar bears and elves, so he’s dug his way to the North Pole to turn all the white snow red. If he can chomp the guy who goes ‘Ho ho ho’ and makes toys for all the little girls and boys, that’s cool too.
To make it OK to slaughter the inhabitants of the North Pole, at the beginning of the game you see Santa throw a cookie on the ground and kick a poor elf into a pile of pixelated gore. Much like Robot Unicorn Attack Christmas Edition, Super Mega Worm Vs Santa is basically just the original game re-skinned with Christmas graphics and holiday music.
He’s not a killer, he’s just misunderstood.
So, just like in the original, you’ll use a d-pad to slither around underground and launch into the air to eat and shoot projectiles at the enemies. But the elves don’t take this massacre sitting down. They’re armed with bazookas, guns, ice tanks, and mines, and they’ll whittle away at your health each time you poke your head out of the ground. To recharge your health meter, you’ll need to chomp on all the elves and polar bears that will fit in your mouth.
As you meet the required kill counts to advance through the 16 levels, you become longer and more powerful, but your shrimpy enemies get higher caliber firepower, too. Thankfully, if you perish you can continue at the beginning of the level you died on, so you never lose too much ground.
Santa, behind you!
If you enjoyed the original, you’re sure to get a kick out of Super Mega Worm Vs Santa. It would have been nice if this version had been offered as an in-app purchase or a free upgrade but, admittedly, charging a buck for a universal app isn’t asking a whole lot. On the other hand, if you only want one game featuring a giant murderous worm, you’ll get more mileage out of the original, since it’s relevant year-round.
But considering the amount of fun and cheer we got out of bringing chaos to the North Pole, we’d never recommend against buying this twisted holiday game. If it sounds good to you, chances are you’ll love it.
