Spider: Rite of the Shrouded Moon Review – Super Spider

(editor note: in honor of Halloween, here’s a great recent release to play this weekend.)

Puzzle / adventure game Spider: Rite of the Shrouded Moon puts you in the hairy hide of a spider, and as Gamezebo’s review relays, it ain’t a bad experience.

This is the sequel’s only major drawback, and to some players it may not even be considered a negative. Shrouded Moon is really just walking a fine line between technical accessibility and immersion, and it’s favored the former in this instance. This makes the game easier to pick up and play, to put down and return to later, and to tackle at your own pace, especially with high scores in mind.

Here’s How to Play as a Walrus in Spider: Rite of the Shrouded Moon

Really, the headline of this piece gets right to the point. From Destructoid:

If you happen to be one of those arachnid-fearing folks, you’re in luck! Spider: Rite of the Shrouded Moon actually has an “arachnophobe mode” which can be unlocked in one of two ways: either by playing the game a lot and solving a bunch of mysteries, OR by simply entering a secret code.

In the settings menu, just go to Save Sessions, click on your current session, and change the name to “ROSMARUS”. Then reload the estate map and check out the spider selection screen and you should have unlocked the Odobenus rosmarus, or the common walrus.

Spider: Rite of the Shrouded Moon Review – Atmospheric

Do you need to read another review of Spider: Rite of the Shrouded Moon before you’ll buy it? Yes? Well here you go, from 148Apps’s 4 star review:

Like the first Spider, the best thing about Spider 2 is its atmosphere. Every level is beautifully crafted and full of spider-sized nooks and crannies to explore. The really neat thing about checking out every inch of each level is that everything is so detailed that players can put together a pretty good idea of what’s going on with the residents of Blackbird Estate, all without having things spelled out.

For players looking for a fun puzzle game with some environmental story-telling hooks, Spider 2 is a must play. It isn’t a completely reinvented version of its predecessor, but it builds on the core elements in ways that keep it feeling fresh throughout.
