Match-3 games have come and gone on the iPhone. Some have been memorable, while others have flopped around like a fish out of water.
Kurakku takes place in a fish tank filled with colored balls. You shoot more balls into the fish tank by punching an alien octopus in the face. The longer you smash your thumb into its face, the further your ball will shoot into the tank. It’s like a meaner version of pinball.
Watch out! It’s a vicious alien!
Aside from the aiming mechanic, this is all familiar territory for match-3 games. You’ve been hired to fly around the galaxy in a cruise ship with underwater aliens? Okay, that makes sense. The only way to refuel is by matching up some colored balls? Perfect!
If you fail to clear the screen before the time runs out, the octopus you punch in the face will cry while the ship sinks into the ocean. We figure these are tears of happiness, considering that this was a ship fueled by violence.
Kurakku Refuelled doesn’t really offer anything new in the match-3 category, and the levels are all very similar. That said, if fish tanks and crying underwater aliens are what you need, this is your kind of game.
Editor’s Note: Cheap Shot is a new review feature where we pick a game that costs $.99 or $1.99 and give it the quick review treatment. While you won’t find a 1-4 score or our usual pros and cons, you will get a direct assessment of the game based on a one-hour playthrough. You’ll still find our full-length, regular reviews for other games.
