JellyCar 3 Review

According to the storyline of JellyCar 3, the game exists only in the imagination of a kid who’s bored silly by math class. As the teacher yammers on, he hunches over his notebook and doodles the whole shebang into existence. What’s amazing is how well the developers have nailed this concept: to play JellyCar 3 is to enter a world so full of clever concepts and outta-nowhere ideas that you really do feel like you’re visiting the mind of a wildly creative child.

Everything in JellyCar 3, from the car you drive to the walls you crash into, has a molasses-like quality to it. Your car can bounce, drift, flip, and pancake, all without taking a scratch. The goal of each level is to reach the stop sign at the end as quickly as possible. But this isn’t easy, because the levels are full of gears and passageways, icy blocks and invisible platforms, and all manner of other obstacles. To help you out, you can inflate your car to five times its normal size, or grab a zany power-up that lets you float or makes your tires stick to any surface.

Get mad air.

At the end of each level you’re awarded up to three stars, depending on how quickly you did the job. If you’re feeling ambitious, you can go back and replay the levels to find the hidden exit in each one. If at any point you screw up– and you will, since the game is no cakewalk– you can use a rewind function that lets you try again without starting the level over. You only get 10 rewinds, though, and when they’re gone the only way to get more is through in-app purchases.

One of the coolest things about the game is that it lets you exercise your creative muscle as well. You can choose between a number of paint jobs for your car, or design your own from scratch. You can also swap out the default sound effects with ones you record yourself. This is particularly fun, because the sound effects happen nonstop as you play.

Super Car-io Bros.

With 50 levels included, the game has plenty of content. Best of all, it never runs out of fresh ideas. The graphics are Retina display optimized, so it looks terrific, plus it’s a universal app. Our only complaint is that once the challenge ramps up, the game’s squishy physics can start to seem frustratingly unreliable.

But no matter. We had too much fun exploring the squishy wonderland to let a little aggravation dampen our experience. Whether or not you’ve played the other installments in the series, you’ll find JellyCar 3 to be a total blast.
