‘Divide By Sheep’ Review: Baa-rilliant

You might not think a game about moving sheep would be a blast, but you’d be wrong. From Pocket Gamer’s 8 out of 10 review:

Divide by Sheep is a game about plonking sheep on rafts. Not willy-nilly though – that would be mental. Instead you’re herding set numbers of the farm animals off to safety.

At least that’s what you’re supposed to be doing. In practice it’s a lot tougher than it sounds. And it involves maths. And, more often than not, murdering some of your flock so you can get the right amount onto the boats.

Nintendo Leaning Toward “Free To Start” Pricing for Mobile Games

In what could be read as a positive sign for free to play haters, Nintendo has talked a bit about pricing strategies for upcoming mobile games during a recent shareholders meeting.

Iwata then went into more detail about what he sees as the social issue of F2P games psychologically manipulating players and acknowledged that the profits from these kind of games come from “whales” rather than from the majority of players. Although companies in Japan can make quite a bit of profit by focusing on whales, Iwata doesn’t believe that the same approach would be embraced by people around the world.

Touch Arcade has the details.

Fallout Shelter’s Success Demonstrates Core Gamers Don’t Hate FTP Games

Fallout Shelter is a wild success thanks in part to the popularity of the Fallout series amongst core game players.

I simply believe that Fallout Shelter is another powerful argument for doing away with this article of faith, that F2P has no place with the core audience. If the brand and the game are right, if the monetisation fits people’s expectations and value systems, then F2P can work perfectly well for a core audience.

Looks Like New iPods are On the Way

Apple hasn’t updated the iPod line in what seems like forever. A new hint that an update may be en route came when an eagle-eyed Mac Rumors reader found an image of iPods that don’t exist (yet) in the latest iTunes update. From Mac Rumors:

The new colors include a darker blue for the iPod touch, a new gold or beige color for the iPod nano, and a brighter pink color for the iPod shuffle.

Apple has not updated its iPod color lineup in several years, most recently shifting the previous “slate” color to “space gray” back in 2013. Apple has typically updated its iPod lineup during the month of September, although it is unclear whether these new colors are actually in the works and what their release timeframe might be.
