Here’s Why Mobile Gaming Will Kill Game Consoles

Want to know why mobile games will overtake console gaming as the platform of choice in the future? Because research shows kids don’t like TVs, and consoles depend on TVs. It’s that simple, says Touch Arcade:

And if you’re a company that relies on a passive display like a television, well, I feel bad for you. A new generation is getting their entertainment from screens they can interact with and have with them. And that’s why mobile gaming has such a promising future. It’s the norm, and console gaming is the weird outsidery thing that’s odd and inconvenient.

So if you wonder why all these companies are going mobile, it’s because that’s where an entire generation is going to be.

Crescent Moon Apologizes for Replacing Premium Titles with Free Versions

Some Android gamers are not happy that developer Crescent Moon has swapped out the paid versions some games with ad-supported free versions. From Pocket Gamer:

“After the recent fiasco of going free with premium titles Neon Shadow and Mines of Mars – we have decided that it would be better to just launch separate free versions that are ad supported on Android from now on,” Crescent Moon told us.

“Even after adding precautions so that previous buyers wouldn’t be affected by the ‘going free’ we still offended a lot of people and would like to apologize for that.”

Ubisoft Reveals Rayman Adventures for Mobile

Rayman is about to hit mobile platforms again. However, his latest romp, Rayman Adventures, appears to be a full-blown platformer instead of an auto-runner like Rayman Jungle Run (which is excellent) and Rayman Fiesta Run (also excellent). We’ll know more when the game comes out this autumn.

‘Furdemption’ Review: Almost Purrfect

This puzzle platformer may be soaked in feline blood, but that doesn’t make it any less fantastic. From Touch Arcade’s 5 out of 5 star review:

The game has plenty of content, with 100 progressively-harder levels and more coming according to the developers. The beta version included a level designer, but the developers pulled it to focus on the game and plan on adding it in a future update. A level designer with shareable levels would give this game immense replayability because of all the different components already in the game. Even without the level designer, the game more than justifies its $2.99 price, especially since the game has no IAP. Initially, the developers pondered going F2P with IAPs but eventually went with a premium price that might rise as they add more content (which means get the game now if you like it).Furdemption is a trully great puzzle platformer with a whimsical protagonist and a colorful-yet-gory art style that stands out among the competition. Add to that a fun soundtrack and the promise of more features to come, and this game’s a winner.

‘Fort Meow’ Review: Cat Physics

This physics puzzler is about creating forts to fend off the cats trying to get your attention. From 148Apps’s 3.5 out of 5 star review:

A lot of Fort Meow’s charm keeps you in a forgiving mood, not least because of the cats becoming hardier and you also learn more about your Grandfather through his journal. It is a little on the short side though, and such issues stop Fort Meow from becoming one of the greats.

‘Samurai Blitz’ Review: Fresh but Familiar

Pocket Gamer has rung in on the quality of the endless runner Samurai Blitz and found it to be pretty freaking good. From the 8 out of 10 review:

Combined with a double jump ability, you’ll find yourself capable of chaining elaborate slice-hops to rack up the combos. It’s deliciously moreish.

There are a number of scenery changes, boss characters, and unlockable scrolls and swords, but in truth you’re just doing the same thing repeatedly – and in this case, that’s just fine.

New Screenshots for ‘The Room Three’

Developer Fireproof Games has released two new screenshots for the upcoming sequel The Room Three. If you dig environmental puzzles and you haven’t played the first two games, you had better fix that before the three-quel launches. From Touch Arcade:

Fireproof Games has stated that for the third game in the series, it aims to take the mysterious story and puzzle solving to higher and weirder places, which, as you’ll know if you’ve played either of the two earlier games, is quite the promise. The Room and its sequel drip with dread and foreboding and deliver a great puzzle experience set within a gorgeous world. Judging from the new screenshots, then, The Room Three will likely surpass the earlier entries just as the developers have promised. We’ll update you with information on a possible release date when we hear more, but personally, I’ll take a great, polished game over a rushed release any day of the week.
