It’s a testament to the strength of the iPhone that the very act of promoting apps has becoming something of a business in itself. One of the leading “discovery sites” will up the ante next week when it launches a dedicated promo app for the iPhone.
Taking a similar path to the original website, FreeAppADay’s app will point users in the direction of free apps on the App Store, with the site having previously propelled the likes of Fingerzilla to the top spot in just 24 hours.
Such sites have created a trend for the developers of paid apps to link up with the site, make their app free for a limited time, and hope that sales will retain their new-found health long after the promo has ended.
Indeed, the fact the site has so much competition– FreeAppCalendar, FreeGameOfTheDay and GreatAppADay just three examples– only goes to show how effective the setup is, though by actually launching on the App Store, FreeAppaDay may one-up its rivals.
The app itself will go live on June 8th, with the company claiming it’s also signed up its ‘biggest developer partner yet”. If your title isn’t listed, however, there’s no need to panic, as the app also comes with a wishlist designed to show just which titles would benefit from a run on the site.
