I'm sick of suddenly running out of juice in the middle of a game... which battery/case combo's the best?

I have the Incase Power Slider Battery case:

It's for the 3G only (and 3GS, I believe), and costs $99. For most people, I have to imagine the biggest downside would be the thickness of this case. I tend to keep my phone in a big cargo-pants pocket, so it doesn't bother me, but if you keep your phone in the pockets of jeans or something, this case may make it prohibitively large. Fortunately, the case doesn't make any side or top buttons hard to access; same with the camera and audio connector.

The bigger downside for me is the connectivity. To charge the phone and case, you use a mini-USB connector on the bottom of the case, which is fine. However, you cannot charge and sync simultaneously. So to sync, you hold a button on the back of the case for a few seconds, then plug the cable in and iTunes will sync as normal. Then to charge, you have to disconnect the USB cable and reconnect it.

This is all outweighed by the extended battery life, though, which can generally get me through a day of work -- 10 hours? before the case's battery runs out and the phone battery starts being used.

And in terms of the size; I find it's actually nice to have a little additional weight and sturdiness. The price was a little steep, but I've found it's definitely worth it.

that seems like a decent solution. the switch between charging and syncing could be a pain, but I really only sync once every couple of days anyway.

anyone else using something they like?

I have heard some good things about the Mophie Juice Pack Air http://www.mophie.com/juice-pack-air-p/1059_jpa-ip3g-blk.htm.

Here is a review from Engadget: http://www.engadget.com/2009/04/19/mophie-juice-pack-air-hands-on-and-impressions/

From the little time I had with it in the Apple Store, its still fairly bulky (same size as the incase one). Both run for the same price, so basically its the choice between a glossy, smooth feel or a rougher, more grip-like feel.

However, I have heard some reports of the top piece breaking off easily. While this doesn't effect performance as far as battery life goes, it also doesn't hold in your phone as securely. New top pieces are available online at the Mophie store for $7.95 -- http://www.mophie.com/product-p/8004_jpa-ip3g-blk-cap.htm.

Hope this helps, Steve. =]

Thanks dude. I have to say that I am always suspicious of companies selling "replacements" like that, though. It smacks of engineered failure.

One of the most critical iPhone accessories will be an Iphone cases, therefore A large number of respected iphone accessories manufacturers offer different types of cases. The Incase Protective Cover is designed to provide the ultimate in functionality. It provides direct access to the widescreen with touch controls and to the speakerphone and microphone openings. It also offers a camera lens cutout and access to the dock connector

There are so many good Iphone accessories out there, it's really hard to pick one. Since I don't have my Iphone for so long, I have a question. How does the case influence the battery??
