According to a Japanese Final Fantasy fan site called FF-Reunion, Final Fantasy V is coming to iOS in Japan next week. It’s hard to verify through the Google translation, but it’s likely true, seeing as Square Enix indicated back in December that they would bring FFV to iOS at the end of this trailer for Final Fantasy IV. We’re not sure when or if Final Fantasy V will arrive on App Stores the world over, but we bet we’ll see it later this year.
The game will cost 1,800 yen, which converts to about $19.00 in US dollars– which is high, but not unexpected from Square Enix.
Final Fantasy V originally came out in Japan for SNES in 1992. It didn’t land in the U.S. until 1999 as part of the Final Fantasy Collection for PlayStation. It’s the immediate predecessor to the uber-classic Final Fantasy VI, which nearly every RPG fan on the planet would like to see ported and upgraded for modern platforms. But who knows if that will ever happen. In the meantime, we (probably) have FFV to look forward to.
