Dead Space for iOS must have been a success, because EA announced yesterday that they’re going to release a “fully featured” third-person shooter set in the Mass Effect universe for the iPad and iPhone. There’s no word yet on a release date or price, but since it’s meant as a companion game to Mass Effect 3 (which comes out on consoles on March 6), expect it to hit the App Store in the coming weeks. Click ahead for details and screenshots.
According to an EA representative, “You’ll be armed with powers and weapons from the Mass Effect series as you rescue prisoners from a hostile Cerberus base.” Along the way, you’ll also have to seek out evidence of Cerberus’s wrong-doing.
Playing the title will also have an effect on your Mass Effect 3 game on consoles. “Every completed rescue and intelligence discovery in Infiltrator will increase a player’s Galactic Readiness rating directly through the ‘Galaxy at War’ system in Mass Effect 3.”
If Mass Effect Infiltrator is anywhere near as good as Dead Space on iOS, we’re in for a treat. If, on the other hand, it’s more like EA’s last iOS expedition into the Mass Effect universe– the cringe-inducing Mass Effect Galaxy– then we might all find ourselves once again collectively pretending it never happened.
EA also announced another companion iOS app for Mass Effect 3 called Datapad. Datapad contains a minigame about fending off Reapers, a map that stays up to date with your progress in Mass Effect 3, as well as a communication hub so you can keep in touch with your fictional shipmates when you’re away from your console.
