Disney has just acquired Tapulous, according to a report from TechCrunch today. Disney has been no slouch when it comes to iPhone gaming, with titles both movie-related and not already available on the platform, like Breakspin, G-Force: The Game, Jelly Car 2, and Split/Second. With this new acquisition, it appears that they’re looking to expand their focus on Apple’s devices.
Tapulous is best known for their Tap Tap series, which includes, most recently, Tap Tap Revenge 3, as well as numerous band-specific downloads for Nirvana, Nickelback, and Justin Bieber. They’ve also released the iPad-specific game Tap Tap Radiation.
Games from both developers have been very polished efforts across the board, but rarely has a Disney or a Tapulous game has earned our coveted “Must-Have” rating. Maybe with their powers combined they can create games that are more than the sum of their parts. We will say one thing: based on our recent conversation with Matt Beecher, the VP of worldwide product development for Disney Interactive Studios, gaming is something the company has been taking very seriously for a while. The Tapulous acquisition is just further proof.
