Publisher DeNA has just announced that they’re releasing two free-to-play games in the coming months based on Hasbro properties: Dungeons & Dragons Arena of War and G.I. Joe: Battleground. I spoke with the developers of both games yesterday to get the scoop on what to expect. Read on for details.
G.I. Joe: Battleground
Following in the footsteps of Transformers Legends, G.I. Joe: Battleground is an adventure RPG that has you assemble a team of G.I. Joe and Cobra characters to duke it out in mission-based battles. Unlike Transformers Legends, which made you choose to play as either the Autobots or Decepticons, in G.I. Joe: Battleground you can mix and match Joes with Cobra. At launch, the game will have over 100 characters, many of whom have multiple costumes and load-outs you can collect. New characters will be introduced to the game in monthly updates. Look for G.I. Joe Battleground to hit the App Store in the coming weeks.
Dungeons & Dragons Arena of War
Dungeons & Dragons Arena of War is a turn-based RPG with a big social component. It takes place in the Forgotten Realms setting and follows the rules of the fifth edition of the Dungeons & Dragons rulebook. Players create a character, with 15 classes to choose from, and then form a small team with friends or other players online to go adventuring. Environments are rendered in 3D, and combat is based on die rolls. If you sign up early, you get special items. Dungeons & Dragons Arena of War will be free-to-play and is expected to hit the App Store mid-summer.
