Chop Sushi! First Look

THQ Wireless, a major mobile games publisher, has been a bit quiet on the iPhone side of things thus far. It’s put out a few games like Star Wars: The Force Unleashed and Pass The Pigs, but that’s about it. As it turns out, the company also has a tasty-looking Match-3 game up its sleeve for late January: Chop Sushi!

From the official press release:

“Get caught up in sushi-matching mayhem with this innovative puzzler which is destined to become an iPhone classic!

Sink your teeth into hours and hours of match 3 puzzle action as you conquer over 40 unique and challenging levels. Use the device’s touch screen to literally pick up your chopsticks and swap sushi pieces over the vibrant game board, no need to be an expert – these utensils are easy to pick up and play!

Bring your appetite for adventure as you journey across the game’s 15 unique islands meeting new challengers and gathering secret recipes to use in puzzle battles. Create unique combinations, triggering insane combos including the awesome WASABI BOMB! and unleash their devastating effects on your opponents!”

Feature List:

  • Exciting match 3 puzzle action with fresh anime style graphics and responsive touch screen controls
  • Hours of fun and game-play
  • Collect new recipes in Adventure mode to aid you through the game
  • Create combos and trigger your collected recipes to devastate your opponent including the mighty WASABI BOMB!
  • 3 unique modes of game-play

According to THQ Wireless, the game was submitted to Apple this week, so it ought to appear in the App Store by the end of the month.

iPWR SuperPack Review

We’re well aware that Slide To Play readers probably aren’t the most forgiving iPhone users when it comes to battery usage — A lot of these games are damn addicting. When it comes to extending that battery life for play on the road, iPWR offers up a useful, albeit pricey solution, with its SuperPack battery.

The SuperPack is an approximately 2-inch-by-2-inch unit that charges the iDevice when it’s plugged in to the dock connector. On an iPhone 3G, it adds approximately 40 hours of music time, 7 hours of talk time, 10 hours of video time and 10 hours of surfing the web. iPWR claims the SuperPack doubles the capacity of a standard battery. Left on its own, the SuperPack should fully recharge an iPhone in 2.5 hours. Though we tested it on a iPhone, the unit is compatible with all iDevices with a dock connector.

The company claims the environmentally friendly lithium-polymer battery will hold a charge for up to 12 months without use.

Bargain shoppers may find the $60 price tag a bit steep considering similar products retail for between $9.99 and $59.95. The design, which fits well when plugged in, raises concerns about portability, as tossing the phone in a pocket or purse may risk damaging the dock connector.

But price and bulkiness aside, the iPWR SuperPack does everything it promises. If you’re willing to shell out the $60, the additional battery capacity and its ability to charge while it’s plugged in make this a great power solution for heavy users, gamers and road warriors alike.

Burning Monkey Casino First Look

Freeverse–of Flick Fishing and Plank fame–is getting back to its true specialty: superheated simians. We just learned that Burning Monkey Casino is due to hit the App Store later this week.

According to the developer’s product sheet, Burning Monkey Casino features seven different games of chance, a few of which we don’t usually see in casino suites: Slots, Blackjack, Video Poker, Money Wheel, Pachinko, Scratch-N-Win Lotto, and 3 Card Monty.

This game is a substantially modified port of Freeverse’s Mac game of the same name (demo available here). For instance, the game count has gone from five to seven, and there’s an all-new iPhone interface. The Burning Monkey Casino also comes with its own cocktail waitress and lounge act.

We’ll keep a close eye on this one, and see if we can’t slot in a review when it goes live!
