Cheap Shot: Lion Pride

Every woman knows it’s not easy to bring home the bacon. But in the game Lion Pride, if you put your mind to it, you can catch that warthog. You are a lioness, an apex predator whose only job is to kill. All you have are your teeth, your claws, and above all, the element of surprise.

As the excellent tutorial shows, attacking is easy enough. You tap a lioness to activate her, then drag your finger across the screen to set her path. The prey will run away though, so quick, short strokes that provide a speedy attack are best. Double-tapping prey stuns them, but only for a moment.

Hippo Dunk!

You don’t always have to go it alone. There’s your alpha male, who spends most of his time sleeping and will only participate if you herd the prey right to him. And of course there’s the other lionesses, who are all controlled using the tap and drag method. Small animals can be killed alone, while larger ones must be killed by multiple lions working in tandem.

After you make your way through eight stages of killing savanna grazers, you unlock survival mode. This mode has you hunt animals until the meat you bring in can no longer sustain you, and your pride goes hungry.

The only frustrating part is that sometimes a lioness gets no respect in this world. Killing more than a dozen warthogs, a handful of zebras, and some gazelle gets you high praise and keeps the meat meter high, meaning your pride is well fed. But for all that effort, you may only earn a D. Apparently, survival is graded now. Surviving in the savanna has never been more fun, or difficult.
