Cheap Shot: iPark It!

If you’ve ever been waiting in line or snoozing through a lecture and said to yourself, “I wish I were parking a car right now!” then it’s your lucky day: ChaYoWo Games has brought the joy of the maneuverability test to your pocket.

What you do in iPark It is struggle against the controls and terrible camera to get your car from point A to point B within the time limit. Arrows direct you through forty tight courses to glowing parking spots, but if you touch a barrier three times, it’s game over.

Valet for a day.

Blocking your view are the controls: an accelerator bar and a steering wheel. These hindrances wouldn’t be such a big deal if the game didn’t make your car go directly underneath them, but that’s exactly what it does. While playing this game, your car (which you must steer with the utmost precision) will literally go under your thumbs so that you can’t see it.

You can double-tap the middle of the screen to center the camera on your car, but the tap detection is such that it almost never works on the first attempt. So not only do you lose precious time because you have to take your fingers off the controls to center the camera, but you often end up tapping the screen madly with no response. We should also mention that once you successfully center the camera, you’ll only be able to move a few feet before having to center it again, and this gets old fast.

Neon UnderGlow lights are gangster.

If you can get past the camera problems and tackle the not-so-intuitive controls, there is some enjoyment to be found in iPark It. Conquering the twists and turns feels mildly satisfying, and you can post your high scores to leaderboards, which tell you how you’re doing compared to people in your area or around the world. But until they fix the camera, the cons outweigh the pros.

If you’re such a fan of parking cars that after reading this you’re still jonesing to play the game, try out the Flash game this is based on. It’s free and doesn’t take up hard drive space you could devote to something much, much better. Or better yet, don’t waste your time at all.
