The Bluecoats - North Vs South Review

Posted by David Oxford, 3 hours ago

The Bluecoats - North vs South is a remake of a 1990 strategy video game which depicts the events of the Civil War in a rather light manner. However, those expecting to gain any sort of insight on things such as the economy, politics, or the issue of slavery from the time should probably consider looking elsewhere.

Extinction Squad Review

Posted by Jason D'Aprile, 2 days ago

Adult Swim has surprised a lot of gamers with their fun iOS games, which often manage to merge simple old-school gameplay with the themes and look of their own shows. Extinction Squad is no exception, and it takes the quest to rescue endangered animals to a new high… or low as the case may be. Fortunately, we mean that in a good way.

Monster of Puppets Review

Posted by Brittany Vincent, 2 days ago

Puppets are on the loose, and it's up to a lowly amusement park janitor to keep them at bay. Isn't that always the way? NuOxygen's tap-and-slash adventure Monster of Puppets (a clever play on words, if we may say so) follows janitor Charlie on his journey to keep the puppets in each booth at the amusement park from wreaking havoc upon the unsuspecting public-- all because a wayward UFO decided it wanted to make a quick landing. It's clear the game was meant to give Fruit Ninja a run for its money-- but does it ever get off the ground?

Reiner Knizia's City of Secrets Pipes Review

Posted by Erik Carlson, May 18th, 2012

Reiner Knizia is back at it again, teaming with iOS creators Aidem Media and updating one of his board games, Pipes, to fit into to the City of Secrets universe, like he did previously with Skyline. This is again being done to celebrate the upcoming game City of Secrets 2. This time, however, the results aren’t as good as Skyline, and we’re left with a fairly frustrating and mediocre puzzler.

Non Flying Soldiers Review

Posted by Nadia Oxford, May 17th, 2012

Non Flying Soldiers is a game that puts the lives of several fat, waddling bird soldiers into your hands. Your goal is to keep them safe while they make their run across the battlefield. There are many games like it, but this one is yours. Without your birds, you are useless. Without you, your birds are useless.

Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode II Review

Posted by Chris Reed, May 16th, 2012

Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode II takes much of its inspiration from the original Sonic the Hedgehog 2 on Genesis. In both games you play as the speedy blue rodent, and you're accompanied by his trusty buddy Tails. The question is, does the new game tap into the same magic that made Sonic 2 the classic it is today, or does it sputter into mediocrity like many other Sonic games?

Wawa Land Review

Posted by Riordan Frost, May 16th, 2012

It's clear that Wawa Land is trying to provide an equivalent of Mario on iOS, which gives the game some big shoes to fill. Fortunately, there is no lack of spirit in the game’s protagonist, and no lack of potential for the game for the game itself. In its current state, Wawa Land doesn’t fulfill all of its potential, but it makes respectable progress.

Wingsuit Stickman Review

Posted by Jason D'Aprile, May 15th, 2012

You can get a lot of mileage out of simple stick man figures-- from fighting and platformer games to flying. In the case of Wingsuit Stickman, flying through a variety of surprisingly dangerous landscapes is par for the course. This is a sharp-looking and easy-to-play accelerometer game, with plenty of challenge.

Ka-Bloom Review

Posted by Brittany Vincent, May 15th, 2012

Ka-Bloom is a stylish, attractive puzzler by BBC Worldwide. It's a brightly-colored, slick app that one certainly wouldn't assume is being given away for free, and actually does a great job of setting itself apart from the pack.

Pandemic 2.5 Review

Posted by Brittany Vincent, May 14th, 2012

Before it hit mobile devices, Dark Realm Studios' Pandemic 2 was a complex flash game that pit players against the world as deadly viruses, evolving so quickly that even the most brilliant scientists find themselves outmatched. Pandemic 2.5, a considerable update from the infection sim's beginnings, is an interesting specimen, but unfortunately it doesn't engage enough to hold new players' attention.

Dark Legends Review

Posted by Nadia Oxford, May 11th, 2012

The “Twilight” books take a lot of heat for allegedly watering down the ancient legend of the vampire. Whereas the Nosferatu was once feared as a pale-skinned predator that lurked in the shadows and snatched up maidens as easily as a centipede nabs a beetle, today’s vampire is a gentler, shinier creature. Dark Legends, an iOS MMORPG, opts for lore that’s more akin to the gangly, modern vampire, but here’s the thing: the game’s story is still interesting, and it’s still fun to play through.

Juggernaut: Revenge of Sovering Review

Posted by Phil Eaves, May 11th, 2012

There’s a lot to say about Juggernaut: Revenge of Sovering. From the very beginning, it’s a fantasy epic. This is a fantasy world we’re all familiar with, full of muscular knights with overly large swords, buxom witches with revealing wardrobes, and monsters that are nothing more than sharp teeth and claws. Big, sweeping cinematic shots will introduce you to the history of this world that has been ravaged by the demon Sovering. It is up to you, the lone hero, to fight against his army and make it to the demon’s home on Rudway Island, to confront and ultimately defeat him.

Airport Scanner Review

Posted by Erik Carlson, May 11th, 2012

Adorable is hardly a word we would use to describe the fine folks of the TSA and airport security in general. Intrusive and slow, yes. But adorable? Probably never, and it’s a real testament to the ingenuity of the Kedlin Company and their new game, Airport Scanner, that adorable and fun are now words we can use to describe airport security. At least, the security in this game.

LostWinds 2: Winter of the Melodias Review

Posted by Nadia Oxford, May 11th, 2012

Like its older brother, LostWinds 2: Winter of the Melodias began life as a WiiWare title. Now it’s on iOS, and that’s a good thing. Winter of the Melodias is a charming platformer that’s full of life and is well-suited for the touchscreen. It’s no secret that sidescrollers sometimes fall short on iOS, but Winter of the Melodias is a champion.

Punch Hero Review

Posted by Chris Aylott, May 10th, 2012

Nintendo set the standard for casual boxing games back in 1984 with Punch-Out!! -- a game that's still beloved for its simple controls and zany characters. Gamevil’s Punch Hero is cut from the same canvas, but it adds a few twists of its own.
