Big Game Night: X-Men, Icebreaker Hockey, and More

Wednesday is Big Game Night here at Slide To Play, as the biggest iOS games launch right before Apple updates their weekly App Store lists. This week, we’ve got an arcade classic, a brutal hockey game, and a lot more. These games launch at 8pm PST tonight in the US, and we’ve got the NZ store links and more below.

Feed Me Oil

Feed Me Oil is all about avoiding an environmental disaster. In each level, an oil pipe springs a leak, and your job is to direct the flow of the oil into the mouth of a monster, using fans, magnets, platforms, and the like. It’s a fight against gravity, with an Incredible Machine or Casey’s Contraptions feel to it, and the graphics look unique and interesting.

Icebreaker Hockey

If you enjoyed the Backbreaker Football series, and you like ice-rink violence, Icebreaker Hockey is one to look out for. Like the Backbreaker games, this one doesn’t offer the full team-based sports experience. Instead, you play as one hockey player, and you make your way across the rink, avoiding the opposing players, and trying to score a goal.

Price: $2.99 US

Mighty Fin

Not every game needs complex controls to be fun. Mighty Fin is a one-button game from the makers of Scarlett and the Spark of Life. In it, your fish swims up and forward automatically, and you tap to make him dive. The goal is to collect as many coins as possible across eight levels. If it’s as fun as it looks in the trailer, it should be mighty fun indeed.

Did you, like many gamers in their 20s, do a good portion of your growing up basking in the strobe-light glow of an arcade? If so, you probably remember pumping quarters into the six-player beat-’em-up X-Men. This classic has had a resurgence lately thanks to its release on XBLA and PSN, but now it’s coming to iOS in the form of a universal app. We don’t know about you, but we’re looking forward to reliving our childhoods tonight.
