Overhaul games has announced that Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition will be released for iPad. The company previously announced a Windows PC version of the game. Originally released in 1998, Baldur’s Gate is considered one of the best RPGs of all time and the game that kicked off BioWare’s incredible run of outstanding games. Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition uses an updated version of the Infinity Engine that modernizes the graphics.
Here’s the word from the official site:
Running on an upgraded and improved version of the Infinity Engine, Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition will include the entire Baldur’s Gate adventure, the Tales of the Sword Coast expansion pack, and never before seen content including a new adventure and new party member.
Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition will be available on the Apple App Store in summer 2012.
Baldur’s Gate is one of my favorite games of all time. I played through the original 18 times and the sequel 13 times. The storytelling, voice acting (Minsc rules!!!), and gameplay were phenomenal in 1998. I’m confident that those facets of the game will hold up in 2012 and hopefully the enhanced graphics will give the game a current look.
I was already thrilled for the game when it was announced for PC and didn’t think I could be more excited for a Baldur’s Gate remake. I thought wrong. Having Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition for iPad sounds brilliant! The pause-and-play gameplay the Infinity Engine is famous for seems like it would work perfectly on a tablet. Hopefully the other UI elements will be as touch-friendly, but on paper it sounds…outstanding.
Obviously, I can’t wait for Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition for iPad. How about you? Are excited for the iPad remake of BioWare’s outstanding RPG?
