Gold Diggers Review

No, Gold Diggers isn’t some Real Housewives tie-in game, but it is about getting down and dirty in pursuit of some filthy lucre. It’s a vertically-oriented variation on the endless runner genre that unfortunately doesn’t sparkle quite as much as its metallic subject matter. (more…)

Prince of Persia: The Shadow and the Flame Review

Game designer Jordan Mechner’s early titles are experiencing something of an App Store renaissance. The release of Prince of Persia: The Shadow and the Flame, Ubisoft’s reworking of the original Prince of Persia 2, will complete your set of Mechner-iana and it also lives up to the high standards set by previous iOS ports of his stuff. Ubisoft’s tampering only improves the appeal of what was a prickly and demanding original with a generous health scheme and shiny new visuals. (more…)

Leisure Suit Larry: Reloaded Review

If videogames accurately manifest the desires of their target demographic, then a lot of today’s 18-to-35 males long to be massive space marines with names like Brock Beefsteak and Jake McSlamfist. But 25 years ago it was totally cool to help social misfit Larry Laffer score with babes that are way out of his league. Apparently everything dork is cool again, as the original 40-year-old virgin is back: Leisure Suit Larry: Reloaded, Replay Games’ remake of the first game in Sierra’s classic adventure series is just as filthy, funny, and heartwarming as it ever was. Greedy Dwarf Review

Dwarves. If decades of pop cultural teachings are correct, these vertically-challenged guys are bearded miners, frequently Scottish, and above all lovers of gold. Greedy Dwarf’s main character may look more like a disgruntled plumber, but his greed is fully Dwarf. Our brawny protagonist chases his lust for gold all the way through a perilous serious of mineshafts in this action auto-runner that has you spinning a full 360 degrees. (more…)

League of Evil 3 Review

No wonder America is lagging behind other countries in the science and technology race. If League of Evil 3 is anything to go by, scientists are getting slaughtered left and right by guys with robotic arms. It’s all in the name of terrorist prevention in this ferociously challenging sequel to—you guessed it—League of Evil 2. It’s more of the same but with fiendishly challenging levels that will please veterans of the first two. (more…)

Way of the Dogg Review

Straight-up fact: I have no street cred. Zero. In fact, I actually enjoyed Vanilla Ice’s movie trainwreck Cool as Ice. Yet in spite of my lack of urban savvy Snoop Dogg’s new rap-rhythm-fighting mashup earned my admiration. But, crucially, while Way of the Dogg has the street smarts to snag a certain audience, like Snoop himself it lacks the polish necessary for it to gain wider critical respect. (more…)

The iPad is a secret puzzle-solving machine. Forget graphics-intensive shooters, RPGs, and other core genres: enabling addiction to your puzzle of choice is where Apple’s beauty really shines. Today’s puzzle-drug is Color Zen, a graphically striking color-based puzzler from Large Animal Games. Have you enjoyed other visual puzzle games like Blendoku? Your mission is clear: set up your easy chair, make yourself your relaxing beverage of choice, and get yourself to the App Store to download this devious beauty. (more…)

Stickman Tennis Review

Way back in 1958, before online multiplayer, there was Tennis for Two. The first two player videogame, it was the first of what would become countless tennis simulations for home consoles. (more…)

Battlestone Review

Until recently, casual gaming giant Zynga was famous for their crop-based, microtransaction-financed Facebook clickfests. Their action RPG Battlestone is one of a number of recent mobile releases that seek to engage a new gaming audience while maintaining the same in-app purchase strategy. Is Battlestone the habit-forming game Zynga wants it to be, or is it as fun as shoveling a load of old cow dung? (more…)
