Cowboys and Aliens – Silver City Defense is a game that lacks both a cowboy’s quiet charm and an alien’s advanced technology. It doesn’t do much to promote the Cowboys and Aliens movie that’s in theaters, and it’s not enjoyable on its own, either. You’d think a premise as simple as Cowboys and Aliens would be perfect video game material, but this game struggles to be anything more than tedious. (more…)

Temple Trouble has you assume control of a treasure hunter named Captain LeFop. There isn’t much of a story to speak of, but the premise is engaging enough to propel the action. At the beginning of each of the game’s dozens of levels, LeFop finds himself in a room with but one exit, which is typically closed. By flipping switches, pushing blocks and otherwise manipulating the environment, you’ll navigate the perilous paths to open the door and make it one step closer to freedom. (more…)
Quiz Climber’s pricing model makes you feel like a customer first and a player second, if you even feel like a player at all. Shallowly adopting some of the hottest trends in game development, it ends up looking more like an exercise in social gaming and microtransactions than a proper game. (more…)
P1XL Party – Retro Minigames! is the newest game from developer P1XL, whose throwback title RPG Quest – Minimae charmed a lot of people with its 8-bit style. It might be more appropriate to call their latest app a gaming platform, because its main menu has three minigames and six empty slots. These empty slots will have games in them someday at no additional cost, but what’s available now is a hard sell, even at just $0.99. (more…)

RC Plane 2 lets you control a remote-controlled plane on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch. If you’re already excited about the idea, this may be worth your money. Otherwise, this is a title you’ll probably want to pass on. RC Plane 2 looks sharp and features solid flight sim mechanics, but it just doesn’t have enough going for it to allow us to give it a strong recommendation. (more…)
ZZed definitely owes a lot to one of PopCap’s many hits, Zuma. The game’s developers even acknowledge this debt with a cute bit of dialogue in the game’s narrative. However, this tiny chunk of comedy isn’t the sole highlight of ZZed. It’s a thoroughly entertaining game, both in its gameplay and its charming presentation. (more…)
Upon seeing the screenshots and title of Cavorite, we were eagerly anticipating the opportunity to make an awful pun about how it’s our ‘cavorite’ (see: favorite) puzzle-platformer on the App Store. Sadly, we were all robbed of such comedy gold given the quality of the game. (more…)
Recently, Cave has brought their arcade shooters to iOS and adapted them for a new audience. Last year’s Dodonpachi Resurrection is just one example of Cave making exciting “bullet hell” titles available in the App Store. With this track record, we’re not surprised by the quality of their latest port, DeathSmiles. (more…)

When you install Fantastic Knight, its title is shortened to Fanta Knight on the home screen. This could conjure up images of a game featuring an armor-clad soft drink mascot, but the game that actually loads when you tap the icon isn’t quite that interesting. (more…)
Pixar’s new film Cars 2 is now in theaters, and Disney Mobile has put out a game for iOS alongside it. Of course, it doesn’t take an especially good memory to know that movie tie-ins don’t tend to be the best games, but Cars 2 is actually a fun experience. It also happens to be a brief one, because you can finish the game in less than 45 minutes, even if you have some trouble on the harder levels. (more…)
