Creatorverse Review

The App Store is full of physics-based games, but most of them are puzzles. You may be cutting ropes or launching birds or assembling wacky vehicles, but it’s rare that you get the freedom to build whatever you like. For better or worse, that freedom is what Creatorverse has in spades. (more…)

Monster Mansion Review

There’s something depressing about a competently-produced bad game. You want to be able to root for it, because real people worked hard to create art and sound and get the code working right. However, there’s no getting around the fact that a game like Monster Mansion isn’t any fun to play. (more…)

Need for Speed Most Wanted Review

There’s a cute disclaimer at the beginning of Need for Speed Most Wanted, warning you that the game’s driving experience is “for entertainment purposes only.” It’s too bad that EA wants you to buckle up and drive safely in the real world, because driving like a maniac is a lot of fun. (more…)

Huebrix Review

In 1924, Richard Simon and Max Schuster launched a company by publishing a book of crossword puzzles. The book was a huge hit, Simon & Schuster is still a big name in publishing, and books of crossword puzzles still sell in the millions. Huebrix is a lot like those books: if you like this one specific kind of puzzle, you’ll get a lot of what you like. (more…)

Toybox Review

Toybox is several throwbacks at once. On the one hand– literally– it’s a simple shoot-em-up. On the other, it’s a classic Match-3 game. And if you had a third hand, the game’s old-fashioned look would surely count too. (more…)

Spy vs Spy Review

The Cold War has been over for twenty years, and blowing up spies isn’t as much fun as it used to be. Or is it?

Spy vs. Spy is the remake of a 1984 computer game based on the classic Mad Magazine comic strip. The comic featured two spies killing each other with elaborate deathtraps; the game took this premise and added something suspiciously like a plot. (more…)

Take a walk around a mass market retailer and look at how Angry Birds has overrun every department. There are shirts, toys, notepads– you can deck out your entire life with furious avians. So it’s no surprise that games like Mad Cows take aim at copying it, and consistently miss the mark. (more…)
