App Store Hits 100,000 Apps, EA and T-Pain Pleased

Today Apple announced that the App Store has hit 100,000 applications. Their press release quotes Phil Schiller, Apple’s Senior VP of Worldwide Product Marketing, as well as Travis Boatman, VP of Worldwide Studios for EA Mobile. More surprising was the quote from Smule’s CEO, Jeff Smith. They’re the makers of I Am T-Pain, a surprisingly successful auto-tune app. “Shawtay!”

We’re not surprised to see EA included in this press release: After all, currently almost half of the Top 20 highest grossing applications are from EA Mobile. Rock Band, Command and Conquer, NBA Live, Madden, FIFA, The Sims, and Tetris are helping to define the standard for “premium” gaming content on the iPhone.

The T-Pain App is more of an oddball, though. It’s barely in the Top 20 highest grossing apps, but according to an article in BusinessWeek, it’s on track to pull in $3 million for its creators.

As usual, at Slide to Play we’ll continue to sort through all the new games that have been coming out, as well as a few non-gaming apps to help you decide where to spend your money. With the sheer number of Apps available, some of which have nothing to do with noisy bodily functions, you’ll need the help.
