In the world of virtual skateboarding, there’s no name with as much street cred as Tony Hawk. Arguably the best extreme sports game ever made, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2 already came to iOS in 2010. It was a full PlayStation game, but with clunky virtual controls placed right on top of the touchscreen. Now, Activision has announced that a mobile-focused Tony Hawk game will be launching on mobile smartphones and tablets this summer.
Tony Hawk’s Shred Session will be developed by Big Bit, who previously ported the Dreamcast racing game Re-Volt to iOS. It will contain six real-world skaters: Tony Hawk, Chris Cole, Aaron “Jaws” Homoki, Lizzie Armanto, David Gonzalez, and Tony’s son Riley Hawk.
According to the announcement, Shred Session’s controls will require just one finger to pull off tricks, and offer two different modes. One is Survival, where you have to complete a solid string of tricks, and the other is Shred Session, where you’ll complete objectives similar to those in previous Tony Hawk games.
The first images from Shred Session can be found on the game’s Instagram page, and you can like them on Facebook for more updates. Since Tony Hawk is a series we know and love, we’ll be sure to keep you updated on the game’s development. Meanwhile, there are plenty of other skateboarding games to choose from on iOS, like Skater Nation, Touchgrind, True Skate, Skate It, and Mike V: Do or Die Skateboarding.
